Rent-A-Coder is an online-based auction house designed and created to connect companies with a massive network of freelance programmers in need of work.
Rent-A-Coder isn’t one dimensional though, they also facilitate the connection of businesses with writers, translators, and graphic artists. Ian Ippolito, the CEO at Exhedra Solutions, Inc. and founder of Rent-A-Coder, understands that a rapidly growing business needs specific resources, cheap, and a central location to look for, and acquire, them.
Rent-A-Coder is considered by some to be the eBay of the programming industry, where literally thousands of coders are able to bid on projects and display their abilities to prospective employers. Employers, on the other hand, get to post their projects and create bid wars on who will accept the least amount of compensation to complete that project. This inevitably results in a worldwide network where companies in Quebec are hiring programmers in the Philippines and Pakistan. Many claim that future of the programming industry will mirror this hypercompetitive, technologically-advantageous website.
Ian Ippolito says the idea for Rent-A-Coder came to him in a moment of brilliance after turning down several coding projects. That idea would eventually germinate into a website, Rent-A-Coder.com, and grew rapidly thereafter. This innovative business model means that companies are able to pay the lowest wages possible, and pass on those profits to customers. The coders benefit from having a central location where they can search for, and hopefully find, gainful employment.
